Top 10 Emerging Scottish Designers To Watch

| Up-And-Coming Scottish fashion designers you should know about before they become ‘like totally famous’. Graduate Fashion Week, here they come…

In the run up to this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, we’re turning the spotlight on Scotland. We have a huge wealth of talent here in Caledonia, from self-taught textile pros to student fashionistas and everything in between. These are the top 10 young Scottish fashion designers to watch this season; follow them before they’re famous.

1. Anika Höppel

Anika Höppel aka. Studio Höppel creates dreamy luxury womenswear with beautiful drape and shape. This trend-led designer is part of Fashion Foundry, Scotland’s incubator for emerging fashion talent.

Another Fashion Foundry ALumni, Edinburgh-based Ellie Vallely explores playful naivety with her joyously colourful and award winning fashion brand, Squint Clothing.

3. Olivia Rose Havelock

Recently named by Man Repeller as ‘the next Instagram it brand that’s about to be everywhere’, Olivia Rose The Label creates unique handmade blouses, dresses and more with a signature ruffled, puffed style.

4. Rachael Weir

Edinburgh College of Art graduate and print designer Rachael Weir is known for her use of kaleidoscopic colour, retro shapes and rainbow imagery. Find hand-crafted earrings, swimsuits and adorable crop tops on her Instagram feed.

5. Maddie Williams

Maddie Williams has made headlines everywhere for her sustainable fashion design; this Edinburgh-educated young talent has a vision of an avant garde and eco-friendly industry.

Textiles by April is a one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories and homeware label based in Aberdeen. April’s luxurious designs are inspired by agate and crystals, blending nature and photography with fashion.

7. Christina Wong

Christina Wong is an environmentally conscious textiles designer whose creations weave rich texture and colour using fabric selvedge to reduce waste in the manufacturing process.

8. Aurélie Fontan

Aurélie Fontan is a pioneer in biodesign; combining the worlds of science and fashion in collaboration with ASCUS lab to literally grow her own fabrics. A final year ECA student, Aurélie’s designs are over-the-top, intricate and breathtakingly beautiful.

Menswear designer Rhys McKenna, a Scottish Fashion Awards nominee, creates exceedingly intricate and yet undeniably masculine designs in a masterful display of skilled craftsmanship.

10. Nadia Pinkney

Last but certainly not least is Nadia Pinkey, a Heriot Watt University graduate whose bold, modern womenswear designs are layered with human stories and rich narrative.
