For the past 6 months or so, fashion film and broadcasting collective SHOWstudio has been running a stimulating new project inviting the cream of the fashion industry to explore their passion for specific looks within new designer collections. Here, we round up the top five videos from the ‘Best in Show’ series on SHOWstudio, from Stavros Karelis’ deconstruction of Raf Simon’s SS18 collaboration with Peter Saville, to Dal Chodha’s analysis of a Haider Ackermann coat.
"In a move away from the fast pace, commercial and throw-away mannerisms of the fashion world, Best in Show allows characters and creatives from within the industry to hand select and discuss a favourite item from the previous season. Each individual selects a garment or look that inspired them – a fantastically fabricated hat that is reminiscent of a childhood memory, a suit that exhibits exquisite tailoring, a poncho that roused political commentary – Best in Show offers a unique insight into how the shows truly affect the individual."
1. Dal Chodha – Berluti S/S 18
London based writer and Archivist magazine editor Dal Chodha explores a gorgeous coat from Haider Ackermann’s second collection for Berluti as his pick from the men’s collections back in July. 2. Jacob Mallinson Bird – Charles Jeffrey S/S 18
Modelling the showstopping wedding dress from the finale of Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY’s joyful gender queer spring collection, drag queen Jacob Mallinson Bird (a.k.a Dinah Lux) talks about the old school glamour-meets- modern experimentalism of this extravagant white gown adorned with lobsters and scorpions in primary colours.
3. Stavros Karelis – Raf Simons S/S 18
Stavros Karelis, the founder and buying director of curated multi-brand luxury store in London MACHINE-A, picked a look from Raf Simon’s menswear collaboration with graphic designer Peter Saville. Shown in New York’s China town and heavily inspired by Blade Runner, Stavros explores the rainhat, umbrella and wellington boots ensemble paired with a Saville printed tee and oversized blazer.
4. Nellie Eden – Molly Goddard
From a hugely popular collection from ever-rising star Molly Goddard, Nellie Eden (writer and co-founder of Babyface collective) opted to preset the light and summery white cotton smock dress; modern bridal style at its finest, with an air of eccentric English rose.
