High St vs High End: Testing Basics with Lizzy Hadfield

    | A fashion youtube channel that will answer whether your expensive, designer clothing pieces are actually worth it or if you should have gone to the high street shops.

My current YouTube obsession is a video series called Testing Basics by fashion vlogger Lizzy Hadfield. Lizzy takes 5 versions of a staple fashion product from a wide range of brands and budgets, styles and wears them for a week, and reviews them at the end, showing which buys were worth the money, and analysing the fit, feel, look and quality.

It's honestly incredibly addictive and a really original way of presenting fashion on YouTube that's not just a boring old haul or lookbook. Read on for my top 4 picks: the white shirt, the skinny jeans, the ankle boots, and the turtleneck jumper.

    The White Shirt

Comparing your wardrobe's most hard working garment, classic simple white cotton shirts, from ASOS (£25), & Other Stories (£55), Ralph Lauren (£75), Comme Des Garcons (£129), and Acne Studios (£240).

    The Skinny Jeans

The most popular denim shape, especially for Autumn/Winter, Lizzy picks from ASOS (£28), Weekday (£40), Topshop (£42), All Saints (£98) and 3x1 (£194).

    The Turtleneck Jumper

High neck long sleeve jumpers are every fashionista's Autumn essential, and often worth investing in for quality. Lizzy compares knits from New Look (£7.99), Uniqlo (£24.90), Cos (£45), Isabel Marant Etoile (£90) and T by Alexander Wang (£170).

    The Ankle Boots

Finally, the most versatile shoes around, the ankle boots. Here, get the look from River Island (£50), Topshop (£75), Dune (£185), Whistles (£195) and Isabel Marant (£495).
