How can Photography help Body Positivity? One New Yorker explains.
Caroline Denis is a Haitian-American actress, model and hails originally from Brooklyn, NY.
"I have had a lot of issues with how I looked and how I felt about myself and body for most of my life. For years, I had a low self-esteem and felt that my body wasn't beautiful even if others felt I was.
This all changed a few years back after going through a phase of hiding behind extremely large clothing and not doing my hair. I no longer recognised the person I had become and wanted to understand why I felt the need to hide. I began my journey towards self-love after moving to Glasgow and attending drama school at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. There I learned how to better understand myself and how to accept all of me no matter how good or bad it might be.
This is when I began to see the beauty both internal and external which now brings us to Erica Von Stein. From the moment I met Erica, I felt beautiful. She has such a caring heart and just knows how to capture the beauty in everyone. She is extremely reassuring and provides you with the most comfortable, safe, creative and playful space. Working with Erica has helped my self-esteem as well as how I feel about my body. Shooting now is just a ton of fun and I feel beautiful. I think it's important to stay open and to be proud of who you are and not to focus on what you think the world wants from you, it's just not realistic. Focus on the beauty you have on the inside and it will radiate on the outside."
