| She's a fashion girl, in a fashion world. Take a leaf out of Amy Roiland's book who built her empire up through hard work and a passion for fashion.
With rainbow hues and bold style captured in unbelievable locations; LA-based fashion blogger and general girl boss Amy Roiland has more than just an enviable instagram account! With many figurative and literal hats (or glasses as the case may be) to her name, Amy is more than A Fashion Nerd. She's also a CEO, designer, social media manager and photographer as just some of her extra titles. With her own eyewear collection launching this week through cult brand Betty and Veronica, we thought it was perfect timing to figure out how the hell she gets everything done! This is Amy Roiland's day in the life of...
Hey Amy! Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
I am an eyewear and fashion blogger / eyewear designer. I focus most of my time designing and blogging. I love the eyewear industry, it's my favorite part of fashion to be honest. I launch my first line of eyewear with Betty and Veronica next week! After this I hope to launch my very own line.
That's amazing, congrats! How did you get into this business?
I have always incorporated eyewear into my images and I am "A Fashion Nerd" so I figured why not start designing my own. I am part of one of the biggest eyewear forums in the world on FB so it was pretty easy to get a line going with Betty and Veronica. I got my job with Betty and Veronica because my boss saw me on Shark Tank (pitching for her app Fashion Tapp) and believed in me 100%. I took this company from 7k fans to 90k fans in just 5 months. I work VERY hard and I used all of my connections for this company.
If you weren't doing this, what would you be doing?
Working with animals full time some how. I am obsessed with animals. I just got a cat (@davosgucci) and he is in training to be a pet therapy kitty, I want to take him to hospitals and convalescent homes. He will bring so much love and joy into peoples lives.
Do you have a life motto / mantra?
Persistence is the key to success.
Take us through a typical day. What time do you get up at?
I wake up around 7:15am and I post on all my social networks for all the accounts I run. Then I go through and check dms. After this my cat jumps on me and starts kneading my stomach and my legs. Kitten massage! After this I get up and take my dog out and feed my babies. Then I jump on the computer and do social media marketing, emails, etc. Then I go out and do photo shoots or shoot inside my fashion room/studio. I edit and watch TV.
How do you keep yourself organized?
I wish I could be better at this. Sometimes I feel all over the place. I have an app called "DO" and I make a list of stuff I need to do and I check it off as I go along. This helps me. I also use timers.
How do you keep yourself going through a humpday?
I don't believe in days of the week. I work all the time, I even work through the weekend. I wish I could take time off but I just cannot. My hobby is my job. I am always shooting or editing or working on social.
Biggest misconception about the job you do?
That it's easy. Social media is VERY hard and takes a lot of work. This job is full time. You have to be posting 2 times a day at least or you will lose your fan base and quick. NO breaks!
How do you wind down?
I drink green tea matcha at night and it helps me calm down and get sleepy. I know WEIRD... This is how I am wired.. caffeine makes me very tired. I also drink KAVA tea which helps me relax. It's also bath weather! YAY
What's your favourite thing about what you do?
Creating/designing. Out of everything I do designing is my all time favorite. I love creating things from scratch and seeing how they turn out. This is the most rewarding thing ever.
Any advice for someone who would like to follow in your footsteps?
Connect with someone who is doing what you want to do and learn from them. Follow the people you want to be like and study them.
Do you have an idol?
Steve Jobs for sure. I know most people think he was evil and crazy but I think he was a walking genius. He knew what he wanted and he got it every time. Persistence is the key to success.
