Bringing Instagram Beauty to Life: The Glam Squad

| If Jamie Genevieve is getting involved, we’re interested! Glasgow’s BLOW Hair Salon and ONYX Beauty Salon team up to create the ultimate Scottish Beauty Event.

The word ‘celebrity’ is being redefined. Where actors, singers and supermodels used to define what being famous was, social media stars are now taking centre stage, or centre screen as the case may be. It’s been said that engagement on fashion and beauty brands are higher on Instagram compared to any other platform and I believe them. Magazine sales are down, double taps – despite the algorithm – are up and there’s two award winning businesses who plan to bring the online world of beauty into real life, and to Glasgow more specifically.

Scotland’s beauty industry has been shook by the success of #BLOW and ONYX since they hit Glasgow with their vibrant and signature styles, catapulting both to the cult status. This December, they are joining their 150K social media strong forces to bring you the tutorial of the year. No, this isn’t virtual reality gone wild, this is The Glam Squad.

Wanna join the glossy possy! Rich HD colour with a squirt of #olaplex…. yes… that should do it!

Laying down the red carpet in Glasgow’s Barras Art and Design Centre, The Glam Squad will be bringing the latest beauty trends and technique from your favourite online MUA’s and stylists. Have you ever wondered how to get that perfect photo finish? Travelled through a minefield of highlighters and never quite got the right result? Wished YouTube had a "raise a hand" option or Guy Tang’s secrets would be just politely passed over as a public service announcement? Yea me too, and I’m not the first. That’s why it came to both #BLOW and ONYX that they wanted to make it happen for everyone, starting in their home city.

With editors such as facetune and vsco being weirdly the norm nowadays, almost anyone can become an "insta-famous" hair colourist or MUA. However, the best need to work hard both online and off to perfect their trade and these are the ones who tend to make it viral. A feeling familiar to #BLOW, who’s glitter roots image "broke the internet" being regrammed by everyone from Teen Vogue to Miley Cyrus, and is still tumblr’ing away at this very moment. ONYX is also no stranger to celebrity status, with thier artists work being published in the likes of Vogue Italia and on the faces of Helen Flanagan, Lucy Mecklenburgh, Amy McDonald and Una Healy. It was no suprise that these two glam geniuses would get together and create something special. But who else can we expect in The Glam Squad?!

From assisting Jen Aitken right to the Glam Squad! How does @domseeley create that signature beach wave? Or have you ever wondered how @mmmmitchell manages to achieve THAT glossy finish?! Well, if you grab your ticket you could be one of the lucky ones to check it out up close and personal as he beats a very familiar face, none other than @jamiegenevieve.

Being camera ready is a must for Geordie Shore’s Holly Hagan, so they’ve hooked her up with the Queen of blending herself, @staceymariemua to get her glammed up for a night in Glasgow’s famous Barrlowlands, with pals Helen (Bleu) Briggs and Valleys star Lateysha Grace also making an appearance.

Each member of The Glam Squad will be filling you in on their industry secrets across hair and beauty, along with tips on what products to really trust! On top of tutorials, The Glam Squad has cherry picked a list of their favourite brands to pop-up and shop on the night. From Doll Beauty to GHD, Tigi to Peaches and Cream, The Glam Squad are coming armed with your favourite brands that you can only normally get online. Here’s looking at you Christmas! Be sure to stay tuned to The Glam Squad instagram for all updates on MUA’s, stylists and participating brands.
