Let’s be honest, how many of us actually took advice from our parents when we were younger? Even though there were times we really should have – especially when it came to fashion advice (I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you when you tried to coax me out of my comb over circa 2009, mum!). There are a few words of advice, however, which I’ve carried with me in my twenties – and I’m here to debunk them!
Although, technically, fashion knows no bounds and we can wear what we want, it’s hard to ignore a ‘rule’ that’s regurgitated via mags, TV and word of mouth. Admittedly, some ‘rules’ can really help a gurl out in times of need but most of ‘em are kinda constricting and outdated. Rules are made to be broken, after all.
So here are 5 Fashion Rules you definitely need to break.
1. ‘Blue and green, never seen’
Oh yeah, because these combos look reaaal awful… not!
2. ‘Horizontal stripes aren’t flattering’
Erm, are you sure about that?
3. ‘Never show your bra straps’
I mean, I get it but who can resist a fancy cage bra, really?
4. ‘Don’t double denim’
DO double denim, triple denim, ALL the denim!
5. ‘Never mix prints’
What is fashion if you can't get a lil' bold with it sometimes?
What's the lesson we learn here, folks? Wear whatever you think looks good as long as you feel comfortable and don't let anyone tell you different! Oh, er... and to listen to your 'rents, probably.
