Podcasts are a great free way to occupy time on your commute or help you to get to sleep at night. I love listening to them in the bath too, as they tend to come in handy 20-60 minutes episodes.
Whilst beauty is a very visual topic, it actually makes for great entertaining and educational podcast material. You can learn a lot from a podcast without you realising that you're being taught anything, due to their chatty and informal delivery.
These five beauty podcasts, from the UK and the US, are ones that all cosmetics addicts need to listen to.
The Emma Guns Show
This is my favourite beauty podcast as it has a good dose of beauty journalism and blogging chat in it too; making it a great one for anyone in the industry to listen to. Ex OK! Magazine Beauty Editor Emma Gunavardhana hosts the show and every Sunday she interviews a leading light in the beauty journalism, blogging or brand industries. Guests have included skincare guru and blogger Caroline Hirons; Glamour Magazine Beauty Director Alessandra Steinherr and cosmetic doctor and founder of his namesake skincare brand, Dr Dennis Gross.
The Beauty Brains
This is one that's for the really serious skincare junkies out there, as it delves in deep to the science behind product ingredients. You can expand your knowledge greatly with each episode and they are never boring. Two scientists discuss a different topic each week, including collagen for anti-aging, what peptides are and the lowdown on Vitamin C in skincare. There's a back catalogue of over 150 episodes to keep you occupied too.
Fat Mascara is another podcast that interviews key beauty industry players; but this time from the US. It's hosted by two friends and Beauty Editors, Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Goldstein, and they chat to a range of experts and influencers including Kat Von D, MannyMUA and Charlotte Tilbury. It's fun, entertaining and definitely informative - like a good old-fashioned girly chat.
This Week In Makeup
Another US podcast, This Week In Makeup is the place to head to for product release news and current trend discussions. It's a fortnightly podcast, and episodes are filled with reviews of the latest makeup releases as well as some interviews with makeup artists thrown in for good measure. Host Crystal has studied makeup and is passionate about her craft as a makeup artist. Be prepared to need your credit card handy, as this show will make you want to go shopping.
Behind The Beauty
Behind The Beauty is a podcast hosted by the lovely Serein Wu. Every week she chats to leaders from top brands to get the inside scoop on their background, their ethos and the planned future of the companies that they work for. Must listen episodes include her interviews with Christina Zilber from Jouer Cosmetics, and medical esthetician Kerry Hite on her use of acids in products. This is a fairly new podcast, so I'm excited to see where it goes.
Next time you are stuck for something to do, head over to iTune and download one of these free shows. You'll be addicted in no time.
